“It’s a joy to see how much everyone loves to get involved.”

An MP, a special café and a Sweet Zombie Horse
We recently welcomed Anneliese Dodds MP for Oxford East, to Shotover View, an Independent Living with care scheme with 54 apartments in Cowley.

Anneliese had the opportunity to meet staff and residents – but also Dr Phil Freizinger and his Sweet Zombie Horse who provided the musical soundtrack for the visit!
Shotover View is home to Waste2Taste, a café that provides affordable and ethical food and is open to the community. The team rescue surplus food from local suppliers, supermarkets, and producers — food that would otherwise go to waste — and transforms it into delicious, nutritious meals.

Anneliese Dodds: “It was lovely to see how the supported housing at Shotover View is working- providing independent and healthy living for people from a range of walks of life. It was clear that the model of providing care on site was something that the residents valued and could rely upon. Finally, the partnership with ‘waste to taste’ (and amazing musical entertainment) was clearly being enjoyed by all!
“Well done to all the staff at Shotover View for making it such a welcoming place for people to live in - and in many cases, thrive in.”
Helen Murfitt, bpha’s Independent Living Operations Manager: 'It was wonderful to welcome MP Anneliese Dodds to Shotover View. She clearly has a passion to support organisations and community groups making a difference within Cowley and she already has a good relationship with many customers at the scheme, as well as Waste2Taste, who provide and run our community cafe.”
Sandra Ruge, Founder and Director of Waste2Taste CIC: “It was such a joy to welcome our local MP Anneliese Dodds to Waste2Taste at Shotover View and to share a little of what makes our community so special! The visit happened to coincide with our monthly Community Lunch and a wonderful surprise from our creative volunteer artists — the appearance of a ‘Zombie Horse’.
“The amazing Phill from the Mighty Redox was kindly playing for our local community. The Zombie horse itself, a symbol, made entirely from recycled materials. It was a fun and imaginative way of celebrating sustainability and community spirit, reminding us that even food waste isn’t the only thing we can bring back to life!
Our volunteers bring warmth, laughter, and creativity into the café, supporting not just our mission to reduce food waste, but also to bring people together. It’s a joy to see how much everyone loves to get involved , goes with the fun, puts the hat on and makes a difference together. Always so much fun.”
