Independent Living in the heart of Bedford
Russell Court is within easy reach of the River Great Ouse, and despite being very close to the town centre, is in a peaceful setting. This is partly due to its large and well looked after communal garden and outdoor seating area.

“12 years ago, I decided to move to Russell Court. I wanted my independence and my own space. I have my little garden, which I like to keep nice, and I like to sit outside and drink my tea in peace and quiet.”

Maria:
“I’ve lived in Bedford since my early twenties. I’m originally from Italy where I lived on a farm. When I got married, my husband and I moved here so he could work at the brick works. We were two of 7,500 Italians that came to Bedford between the 1940s and 1970s because of the jobs there, making bricks to help rebuild cities destroyed in the war. I was so shy when I first arrived – I can’t believe it’s 60 years ago.
“12 years ago, I decided to move to Russell Court. I wanted my independence and my own space. I have my little garden, which I like to keep nice, and I like to sit outside and drink my tea in peace and quiet. My children all check in everyday and I cook for any of them due around lunch time. I also go on holiday with them - I travel all over still. I looked after them and now, they look after me. I’ve been happy here, and I don’t want to leave. It’s my home.”
