Air fryers have become a kitchen favourite: they’re convenient and perfect for cooking meals without the high energy bills. According to a Which comparison, some air fryers use less than half the energy compared to an oven – that’s thanks to their fast-heating and shorter cooking times.

But like any appliance, it’s important that they are used safely. Using them correctly can prevent fire risks and is essential for keeping your home safe.

We recommend registering your air fryer. This way, you’ll be alerted if there’s ever a product recall or safety alert which may affect the appliances safe use.

To help prevent a fire from occurring, you should

  • Purchase from a reputable supplier
  • Clean your air fryer regularly
  • Avoid using baking paper in the air fryer
  • Don't leave it unattended
  • Place it on a stable, heat-resistant surface
  • Avoid placing your air fryer near or underneath kitchen fittings as they could overheat or catch fire
  • Make sure the air fryer has space for air to move around it – around five inches is recommended.

  • Unplug the air fryer, if it's safe to do so
  • Leave the property and call the fire brigade by dialling 999
