What we’ll need from you

To help us assess your request, we’ll ask for:

• Details of the charger and where it will be installed
• Information about your contractor (including qualifications)
• Proof that the installer is properly certified for electrical work
• Any relevant plans, photos or specifications
• Insurance details from you and your installer
• Confirmation whether your application is part of the Motability Scheme.

Details about the information we need you to send are on the permission form. Providing all the information up front will help us make a decision quicker.

What happens next

• We’ll acknowledge your request so that you know it’s been received
• We’ll review your information and may ask for more details. We’ll also send you a list of conditions you need to agree to follow. You’ll be asked to sign and return this to us
• You’ll usually receive a decision within 20 working days once we have everything we need.

Some requests may take longer if specialist checks are required, but we’ll keep you updated if that is the case.

If your request is approved

You’ll receive written confirmation, which will include conditions you need to follow. You’ll be asked to sign and return the list of conditions to us.

You’ll also need to:

• Let us know when the work will start and when it’s finished
• Provide any certificates or documentation after installation. This includes the BS7671 Electrical Installation Certificate, which your installer should give to you.

Important to know

• You are responsible for any EV charger you install
• You may need to remove or update it if it doesn’t meet required standards
• If work is carried out without permission, you may be asked to put things back at your own cost.
